Austin's Playroom

Austin's Playroom, established through the Mario Lemieux Foundation, is open daily for patients and their families on the pediatric rehabilitation inpatient unit. It is a "medical-free zone" where no medical discussions and/or procedures are allowed, creating a safe haven for patients. Therapeutic Activities staff are available to encourage and engage patients in recreation and developmental play, focusing on health and healing, and improving quality of the inpatient experience in a safe, calming, comfortable environment.

Special Happenings

Therapeutic activities can be provided through one-on-one, group, or community therapy sessions. A monthly activity calendar is posted in each patient room, as well as on the doors to Austin's Playroom. Ask Therapeutic Activities department staff about upcoming activities, including regularly scheduled monthly events such as:

  • Drum Circle
  • Music Smiles Program
  • Museum on the Move Program
  • Music Therapy Sessions
  • Family Swim Night
  • Amazing Connections
  • Pet Therapy Sessions
