A young athlete with an injury is very different than an adult athlete with an injury. At The Children’s Institute, our physical therapists recognize the unique needs of children and adolescents, and are specifically trained to treat them.

Individualized attention for individual needs

Our Sports and Orthopedic Therapy Program is designed to provide individual attention to each athlete during every session, creating a uniquely personal approach for each patient’s needs in these areas:

Athletic Injury:

  • Patellofemoral pain syndrome
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Overuse injuries 
  • Tendonitis 
  • Bursitis

Concussion Care:

  • Sports injuries
  • Child and adolescent-specific clinical supervision 
  • ImPACT testing - pre- and post-injury
  • Return to participation - monitoring and progression
  • Neuropsychological testing

Pre-Sports Screening:

  • Pre-determine risk for injuries 
  • Screen for neuromuscular imbalance
  • Decrease sports-related injury risk

Orthopedic Treatment:

  • Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease 
  • Sinding-Larsen-Johansson Syndrome
  • Sever’s Disease
  • Scoliosis
  • S/p fracture or surgical intervention
  • Chronic Pain Management:
  • RND
  • RSD
  • Amplified pain syndrome
  • Chronic headaches

Hypermobility Syndromes:

  • Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
  • Connective Tissue Disorders
  • Benign Joint Hyper-mobility Syndrome
  • Joint Laxity
  • Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)
